Sigmund FreudSigmund Freud is one of the most important theorists within the psychoanalysis field. His theories show how the influences of early life affects later development. Freud studied the different individual aspects of the mind and found connections between them (Levine & Munsch).
One of Freud's theories deals with the unconscious mind. Humans have conscious thought, but also unconscious ones too. So, the unconscious mind is the part of the brain that holds feelings and thoughts that people may not be aware of all the time. This is really important to think about as an educator because simple actions of teachers, positive or negative, will stick in the minds of the students unconsciously. Later in life, those unconscious memories of the action of a past teacher may come up in a child's life and affect them with how they may act in a situation. |
Freud's most famous theory is how a person's personality is divided between id, ego, and superego. This theory can be connected with an iceberg.
Id: instinct, demands satisfaction, impulsive [Conscious Level] Ego: reason, takes in social reality, realistic problem solving [Subconscious Level] Super Ego: values and morals, learn from people, conscious of self [Unconscious Level] |
